Miami police say 50 officers are roaming the Coral Way corridor of Miami Thursday night to find street level drug dealers, people drinking in public and other minor crimes residents find troubling and annoying.
The effort is part of the Miami Police Department's "Operation Safe Holidays.”
The crime suppression operation is underway in Miami's south district until 11 p.m., authorities said.
Authorities say the goal is to address complaints from shoppers and residents in the area.
Sgt. Alberto Alberto told Local 10 the complaints mainly deal with quality of life issues.
Police set up a command post and prisoner transport bus at the intersection of Southwest 20th Avenue and Coral Way.
Similar operations in the past have netted about 30 to 40 arrests, police said. an operation like this will net 30-40 arrests.
Sgt. Alberto said officers had already arrested 15 people by 6 p.m. Thursday.
