Streets shut down to cars in Miami Beach

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. ā€“ Parts of Ocean Drive will be closed to vehicular traffic through Wednesday, January 2 at 7 a.m. as large crowds gather for New Year's celebrations.

Officials shut down Ocean Drive from 5th to 14th streets early Saturday morning. Only pedestrian traffic is allowed to pass by. The same streets will be shut down again from Saturday, January 5 at 7 a.m. until Monday, January 7 at 7 a.m. for the 2013 Bowl Championship Series.

Miami-Dade Transit is free rides on the South Beach Local from 7 a.m. on New Year's Eve until 10 a.m. on January 1. After that time, the regular fee of $0.25 will be back in place.

The city of Miami Beach also warns that residential parking zones will be strictly enforced citywide.
