A viewer captured a photo of what appeared to be a rat inside a restaurant in Wilton Manors that was shut down by health inspectors in July.
"It was so large, it looked like a cat," said Ben. "Through the glass, I saw two red beady eyes staring at me. I took out my phone and snapped a photo."
Ben's picture showed what appeared to be a rat on top of a chair inside the restaurant. The picture showed the rodent inches from a table that was already set with silverware.
A woman inside Simply Delish said it was impossible.
"Are you crazy? No way," the woman told Local 10's Jeff Weinsier.
The woman said she was not the owner. State records show Karen Samra owns the restaurant. She agreed to meet Weiniser by phone on Thursday but never showed.
This isn't the first time there have been issues at Simply Delish.
On July 24, an inspector with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation noted 37 violations inside Simply Delish, including mold growing in salad dressings, slime in the ice machine, live roaches, and rodent droppings.
Local 10 sent Ben's picture to the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Inspectors showed up Friday morning and noted 14 violations, including dead roaches in the dining room and rodent droppings behind and under an ice machine.
Simply Delish was not ordered shut Friday despite the violations.
"The establishment had previously been working with pest control and the evidence of vermin and roaches at the time of inspection didn't indicate an active problem," said Beth Frady, Deputy Communications Director of the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
