School board caps superintendent's contract at $345K

Alberto Carvalho agrees to 5-year extension

MIAMI – The Miami-Dade County schools superintendent agreed to a 5-year extension at up to $345,000 a year.

The Miami-Dade School Board capped Alberto Carvalho's pay at $345,000. He currently makes $275,000.

"I want to be the most underpaid public servant in this community, compared to other public CEO's who manage smaller entities," said Carvalho. "I also want the cap to be lower than the last superintendent's salary."

He has served as superintendent of Miami-Dade Public Schools since Sept. 2008.
