South Beach prepares for Urban Beach Weekend

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Hundreds of barricades went up on South Beach Friday morning as Miami Beach prepares for Urban Beach Week.

An estimated 200,000 people are expected on Ocean Drive for Memorial Day Weekend.

"Memorial Day weekend, the crowd gets pretty tough, pretty big," said Brandon Thaxton.

"Nice vibe, nice atmosphere," said Errol Sadler.

Last year, the vibe was very different after a man was killed in a police-involved shooting. Cell phone video caught officers fire more than 100 rounds into this car. Bullets aslo hit some bystanders.

On Thursday, a lawsuit seeking records from that shooting was filed on behalf of the family of the man who was shot and two bystanders who were seriously wounded

On Friday, ATV cops geared up apart of a $1.5 million plan to keep the peace; which includes beefed up patrols, DUI checkpoints and license plate readers on the causeway.

On Thursday night, Miami Beach Police arrested New York Knicks guard J.R. Smith for not showing up to court when he was arrested last year for not having a valid driver's license.

It's just one example of how officers plan to keep the public safe.
