South Florida celebrates Groundhog Day

"Phil" the Groundhog predicts early spring

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. ā€“ Dozens of South Floridians gathered on Hollywood Beach for the 9th Annual Groundhog Day on Saturday morning.

Revelers began the morning around 6:30 a.m. with breakfast at Ocean Alley Restaurant and Bar. An hour later, they began their traditional "Groundhog Swim." Suggested donations this year benefit the Hollywood Beach Business Association Charity Fund.

Participants also watched live coverage of Groundhog Day from Punxsutawney, Pa., the Weather Capital of the World.

This year, Phil did not see his shadow. Traditionally, that means spring will come early without an extra six weeks of winter.
