MIAMI – Hundreds of people attended a special dance performance at Southwood Middle School Friday night as a special tribute to 13-year-old Kaely Camacho.
The special recital was performed by Kaely's friends, the eighth graders at her school.
"You could just tell they loved her a lot," Aileen Ferrer said.
"It definitely means a lot to us," Kaely's mother Angela Camacho told Local 10's Ross Palombo. "The performance meant a lot."
The night time performance was in stark contrast to the relative silence in court earlier in the day.
Sandor Guillen, 38, wasn't even there as he was formally charged with killing the 13-year old. There were four counts, including DUI manslaughter and vehicular homicide. His attorney entered pleas of not guilty to all of them.
"We didn't expect for a moment that he was going to acknowledge responsibility for what he has done in the tragic death of Kaely," her family's attorney Bruce Cease said.
Guillen himself is still under house arrest and recovering from the 100 mile per hour crash that killed the teen. Police said he first hit her family's car and then raced off on foot.
Now wearing blue wristbands in her honor, Kaely's family is also struggling to recover. But, watching her friends and her fellow eighth graders move forward in her memory, they say, is helping ease their pain.
"Just amazing... it uplifted us... we're happy about that," Kaely's father Kirk Camacho said.
