On Thursday, United Way of Miami-Dade will be hosting more than 700 Miami-Dade County Public School students, teachers and employees at the American Airlines Arena for a campaign award ceremony.
The ceremony is being held to celebrate the schools' 2012 United Way of Miami-Dade fundraising campaign, which raised $1.7 million.
United Way of Miami-Dade says this year's fundraising campaign is one of the country's best United Way school system campaigns ever.
At the annual United Way of Miami-Dade Employee and Student Campaign Awards Ceremony, guests will eat breakfast with Bernie, the Miami Heat's mascot and a brief awards presentation, acknowledging the top school district campaigns and their student, teacher, employee and bargaining unit leaders.
Also attending the event are Alberto M. Carvalho, Miami-Dade County Public Schools superintendent; Dr. Wilbert "Tee" Holloway, M-DCPS School Board; Jason Jackson, of the Miami Heat; and Harve A. Mogul, United Way of Miami-Dade president and CEO.
The event will take place from 9 to 11 am Thursday at the American Airlines Arena, located at 601 Biscayne Boulevard in Miami.
