Police said a robbery suspect threw punches at a Sweetwater detective in a police interrogation room, after a surveillance video led officers to arrest eight people in a theft ring.
The owner of General Procurement said surveillance video showed thieves smashing a car into his business, ransacking the place and taking off with $80,000 worth of HP laptops.
The owner immediately called police, who managed to chase and arrest suspect Orestes Chacon Lopez.
One arrest led to another and another, and soon, investigators had what they are calling a ring of eight thieves behind bars, men accused of committing multiple break-ins.
Police said that while they were interrogating Alois Gonzalez, the man accused of being the ringleader, he jumped over the table and punched an officer.
That officer fought back and got Gonzalez under control, according to police.
Investigators said their work is far from done on this case. They believe there are more thieves out there, specifically one suspect, whom they are close to arresting. He is a 40- to 50-year-old man who lives in Miramar.
