Suspect charged, hospitalized after police-involved shooting

Yamil Paz is a convicted felon, police say

HIALEAH, Fla. – A convicted felon hospitalized after being shot by a Hialeah police officer was charged Thursday.

According to authorities, Yamil Paz, 46, crashed into the fence at Ocean Runner Boats at 1040 East 26th Street and entered the business. Responding officers set up a perimeter around the business in Hialeah, but Paz fled the scene. Police said they shot Paz as he attempted to run over officers.

Paz has been charged with armed burglary to a business and attempted murder of a law enforcement officer.

Police said Paz served time for an armed robbery in 2004.  

The suspect is in stable condition at Jackson Memorial Hospital, authorities said.
