Sweetwater police arrest man who stole taxi cab

Sweetwater police arrested a man in Miramar who allegedly stole a 2008 4-door Ford taxi cab.
Police said a Sweetwater police officer ran the tag of the yellow taxi cab while patrolling Dolphin Mall and confirmed that it was reported stolen.
The police officer then attempted to stop the taxi cab by turning on the police car unit's lights, said police.
Authorities said the man accelerated and fled onto the Florida Turnpike with three Sweetwater units in pursuit. The man exited the highway in Miramar and fled from the stolen taxi cab.
Police said the man was then apprehended and arrested by Sweetwater Police.
While in pursuit, police said a Sweetwater police car unit was assaulted by the man with the stolen taxi cab.
The stolen taxi cab is owned by Sebastian Co. Lon Torres at 3600 NW 37th Court.
