Donald Trump wants to give the Doral Golf Resort and Spa a makeover, just before the Cadillac Championship, and neighbors are not happy.
Those who live around the course are fighting the quarter-billion dollar construction project.
Trump touched down on his 800-acre property Wednesday and revealed his plans.
“The course is said to be the best it's been in 25 years, that's the good news,” Trump said. “The bad news is we blow it up on Monday."
As Tiger Woods and other golf pros were warming up for this year's Cadillac Championship, Trump was talking about his renovation project. The plan is to expand and extend fairways, add waterways, and relocate some greens. The course hotel will also be gutted to build 750 new rooms, and it will be named the Trump National Doral.
"We're taking the blue monster and making a brand new spectacular course,” Trump said.
Many neighbors support the project, but aren’t looking forward to the construction. Some are already mad about the noise made during landscape changes last year after Trump bought the course.
Workers planted trees to protect homes from golf balls in the fairway estates community.
After the Trump organization paid tens of thousands of dollars in fines for noise violations, the Fairway Homeowners’ Association says things have quieted down. Both sides have been working on final resolutions.
“Some of the residents are our biggest fans especially when they consider their property values are going up with us being there,” Eric Trump of Doral Golf Resort and Spa.
