A woman caught in the middle of a robbery was overcome with pepper spray, fell, and hit her head on the rear bumper of a van. She was listed in critical condition.

WESTON, Fla. -

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies released surveillance video of a man misting the large crowd with pepper spray before he snatched a man's gold chain.

It happened at Jamaica night in the parking lot of Café 27 at the Seminole Truck Stop on U.S. 27 in Weston about 2:15 a.m. Thursday.

Surveillance video showed the thief unleashing the pepper spray, causing the large group to disperse. He then snatches the man's gold chain.

The victim was seen getting a handgun from his car and running after the thief and his accomplice, but then backed away after seeing a Florida Highway Patrol trooper working off-duty at the truck stop.

Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue paramedics were called to the scene after one woman was overcome with pepper spray, fell, and hit her head on the rear bumper of a van. She was listed in critical condition.

That victim, 28-year-old Kimberlyn Clarke of Plantation, remained in critical condition Friday. Her family said her injuries from the fall were made worse due to a pre-existing heart condition.

Clarke's mother, Marjorie Crossfield, said her daughter has swelling in the brain and has not regained consciousness.

"I'm pleading to anyone who sees and knows something, please come forward. This is a life, this could be your sister. This could be your mother. It could be anybody," Crossfield said.

Anyone with information on this case is asked to call BSO at 954-321-4270 or Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
