A woman in her 20s was found dead Sunday inside a Lauderhill home, authorities say.
Crime scene tape surrounded the area near NW 55th Terrace and 23rd Street as investigators worked to solve what they believe is a homicide.
The neighborhood is just west of the Florida Turnpike and just to the north of Sunrise Boulevard.
By nightfall, detectives were armed with a search warrant, which allowed to them to go inside of the unit to hunt for clues.
The victim was found in a back room and face down, investigators told Local 10.
"The majority of the evidence we're concerned about right now is still inside the apartment," said Lt. Greg Solowsky of the Lauderhill Police Department.
Police were initially tipped off by a man they took into custody earlier in the day.
Authorities said the man was attempting to burglarize a home in the 2800 block of NW 55th Avenue Sunday, but the residents, including an elderly woman, were home.
The woman's nephew stabbed the suspect, who managed to run away, investigators said.
After police were called, officers caught up with the suspect and took him to a hospital to be treated.
Several hours later, the man revealed to cops that a woman had been hurt at the home on NW 55th Terrace, prompting officers to conduct a welfare search, police said.
The door to the home was open and officers ultimately found the woman's body.
"We do have one person in custody -- yes, at this point. But how he is involved in this specific incident has yet to be determined," said Lt. Solowsky.
