ABC News reports news legend Barbara Walters will announce retirement on "The View"

ABC reported news legend Barbara Walters will announce her retirement on Monday. Walters will make the big announcement on "The View."

Reports say the television superstar will continue on "The View" and on ABC News specials throughout the next year and will eventually retire in the summer of 2014.

Barbara Walters has reportedly interviewed more statesmen and stars than any other journalist in U.S history, including every American president and First Lady since Richard Nixon.

Walters has also interviewed countless world figures, such as Fidel Castro, Moammar Kaddafi, Saddam Hussein and Syria's embattled President Bashir al Assad.

Walters is the creator and co-host of ABC's daytime show "The View." She has also hosted the ABC News magazine show "20/20" for 25 years.

She joined ABC News in 1976 as the first woman to co-host a network news program.
