Alton Road flyover bridge closure starts

Connecting bridge to be shut down until mid-August

MIAMI BEACH, Fla. – Work on the flyover bridge that connects the eastbound MacArthur Causeway to northbound Alton Road was delayed one day.

Weekend rains forced a delay in the construction project and the bridge will now be closed starting on Monday night.

The bridge is scheduled to reopen in mid-August. The contractor will be rebuilding the base of the bridge and replacing the guardrail along the flyover.

A detour will be set up along Alton Road and 5th Street.

Residents learned at a meeting Wednesday that the gigantic reconstruction project might make the road better for pedestrians than originally anticipated. Parts of Alton Road have been torn up since construction began in the spring.
