American Airlines flight returns to Miami because of smoke in cockpit

Miami to Dallas flight diverted Monday

MIAMI – An American Airlines flight was forced to return to Miami International Airport on Monday after smoke was seen in the cockpit, a spokeswoman for the airline told Local 10 News.

American Airlines flight 1615 departed Miami and was en route to Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport when it was diverted back to South Florida about 11:15 a.m.

The Boeing 757 landed safely at 1:05 p.m.

A spokeswoman for the airline said the equipment would be changed before the flight departed later in the afternoon.

There were 166 passengers and six crew members on board. No injuries were reported.
