Argument leads to fatal shooting in Winn-Dixie parking lot

Homeless man fatally shoots man who tried to attack him with tire iron, police say

MIAMI-DADE COUNTY, Fla. – A homeless man shot and killed another man who tried to attack him with a tire iron outside a southwest Miami-Dade County supermarket, police said.

The fatal shooting occurred shortly before 11 p.m. Thursday in the parking lot of a Winn-Dixie near U.S. Highway 1 and Southwest 104th Street.

Miami-Dade police said Eric Harris and Juan Agriel were arguing in the parking lot when the dispute escalated and Agriel pulled out a tire iron.

Police said Harris, 48, pulled out a gun and shot Agriel. He then called police and remained at the scene.

Agriel, 67, was taken to a hospital, where he later died.

Eric Harris didn't want to speak to Local 10 News about the shooting.

After hours of questioning, detectives brought two people back to a gold Toyota, where their dog was waiting, early Friday morning. The man, believed to be Harris, and the woman didn't want to speak with Local 10 News about the shooting.

Daylight revealed several cigarette butts and a single bullet casing on the ground near where the car was parked.

Police said the state attorney's office will review the incident to determine if any charges will be filed.
