Deputies say the woman initially encountered the man while pumping gas at the BP gas station at 2547 Sheridan Street on Nov. 7.

The woman claims she ignored the Rivera Lopez's romantic advances and at some point went inside the convenience store to withdraw money from the ATM.

She then drove to her apartment at the Sheridan Beach Club in Dania Beach and took her dog outside for a walk. According to deputies, Rivera-Lopez approached her again, and the victim continued to deny his romantic gestures, telling him she was married.

Deputies said he then grabbed the woman and held a knife to her throat. Her screams were heard by a couple of neighbors who were trying to jump-start their car a couple of parking spots away.  Deputies said Rivera-Lopez told them he and the victim were just having a fight and threatened the victim to tell them she was his wife, which she refused to do.

Deputies said the victim asked him what he wanted from her and he told her that he wanted the money she took out of the ATM.

The victim complied with that request and Rivera-Lopez left the apartment complex.

Rivera-Lopez is charged with armed burglary and robbery with a deadly weapon. He is currently being held at the Pasco County Jail waiting to be transferred to Broward County.
