Armed robbers cut hole in roof of Check Cashing Store in Dania Beach

Crooks run off with employee's purse

DANIA BEACH, Fla. – Two armed men robbed an employee at a Dania Beach business after using a saw to cut a hole through the roof, Broward Sheriff's Office spokeswoman Gina Carter said.

The robbery happened Halloween morning at The Check Cashing Store, 112 S. Federal Highway.

Carter said an employee was inside the store at the time. She said the crooks pushed the woman to the ground, stole her purse and ran out.

"It was actually a very terrifying experience for her, as you can imagine," Carter said. "She was surprised by these two men. Their faces were covered. They had guns."

Because the employee didn't have a key to the safe, the crooks didn't get away with any money from the store, Carter said.

"They were not able to actually break into the safe and steal any money that was in the store at the time," Carter said.

The men apparently left their tools and a shopping cart behind on the roof.
