Armando Colon slit man's throat, stabbed woman in head, police say

Suspect arrested in double stabbing at Miami apartment

MIAMI – An arrest has been made in connection with a double stabbing at a Miami apartment that left one man dead.

Miami police said Armando Colon was arrested Wednesday on charges of first-degree murder, attempted first-degree murder and armed burglary.

Colon is accused of killing Rodolfo Pavon, 85, and critically wounding Maria Rivero Caririllo, 68.

According to the police report, Colon knew the elderly couple and stopped by their house about 7:15 a.m. Wednesday to get a drink of water. He told police he drank water from a green cup and left.

The report said Colon left to buy some drugs and then returned to the apartment. When no one answered, Colon forced the door open, grabbed something sharp and slit Pavon's throat as he sat on the couch.

Colon then went into the bedroom where Caririllo lay bedridden and stabbed her in the head, the report added.

Caririllo remains at Jackson Memorial Hospital's Ryder Trauma Center in critical condition.
