Baby shower shooting victim identified

No arrests made in fatal shooting

NORTH MIAMI, Fla. – The man who was fatally shot during a baby shower on Sunday has been identified as 25-year-old Jeffrey Leroy.

The incident happened Sunday at the Gwen Margolis Community Center, 1590 Northeast 123rd Street.

According to investigators, just before 9 p.m., the celebration was interrupted by gunfire. Witnesses described the scene as "chaotic," and people were taking cover, hiding in bathrooms and under tables, while others ran to the doors.

"There were dozens of people inside at the time celebrating," said Maj. Neil Cuevas of the North Miami Police Dept. "During the party, a fight broke out between two or three individuals. Shots rang out and one person ended up dead on the scene. When the fight broke out, they were all inside of the building. Whether or not they were invited or they crashed the party, those are the things investigators are looking into right now.

The victim was shot and was transported to Jackson Ryder Trauma where he was pronounced dead.

No other injuries were reported.

They do not have anyone in custody as of yet and are still gathering information about the shooter. Police, however, say they hope to make an arrest soon.
