State inspection cites roaches, raw food exposure

State records show 24 violations found at Bellini Italian Bistro in the Bentley hotel on South Beach last week.

The hotel bills itself as a four-star boutique hotel that's an oasis of luxury.

"Roach activity present as evidenced by live roaches found. 20 live roaches on bar area, 5 live roaches behind pizza oven, 8 live roaches in kitchen, 6 live roaches in dining area."

"Raw animal food stored over ready-to-eat food. Eggs over lettuce."

"Potentially hazardous (time/temperature control for safety) food cold held at greater than 41 degrees Fahrenheit. Shrimp 49 degrees, calamari 52 degrees, salmon 48 degrees."

"Toxic substance/chemical stored by or with food."

"Employee with no hair restraint while engaging in food preparation."

"Certified food manager or person in charge lacks knowledge of food borne illnesses and symptoms of illness that would prevent an employee from working with food, clean equipment and utensils, and single-service items."
