DAVIE, Fla. – Former President Bill Clinton received the first annual Joe Dimaggio Icon award Friday night at the hospital foundation's inaugural fundraiser event.
Oscar award-winning actor Forest Whitaker introduced the former president in front of a crowd at Nova Southeastern University.
"I am honored to be here tonight. I hope my coming will raise a little more money. I can say that because, you know, I'm not running for anything anymore," Clinton said to a roaring crowd.
Kevin Janser, executive director of the Joe Dimaggio Children's Hospital Foundation, estimated about a million dollars would be raised from Friday's event.
