FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – There was a mysterious noise in a Fort Lauderdale home for days.
Finally on Tuesday, meowing was echoing in the bathroom. But no one could see where the cat was. Firefighter Eric Fillyaw went up to the attic to investigate.

Fillyaw realized a lost kitten was stuck in the ventilation system and not in the bathroom pipes, as homeowners had suspected.
"He must have been on the roof," Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue's Greg May said. "He probably fell into the vent and then went down."
Fillyaw was able to get the black domestic short-haired kitten out through an air conditioner vent. The firefighter held him until he took him to the Broward County Animal Care adoption center.
"He was there for days," May said. "Seeing him out of there is one of the coolest things I have ever seen."
The Broward County Animal Care adoption center's education coordinator, Lisa Mendheim, said the kitten was too young to be adopted.
"He is about a month old and he needs some medical care," Mendheim said. "He needs nourishment, so we are feeding him and taking care of him before we send him to one of our partners, so they can take care of him."

Mendheim said it was too early to tell where the kitten was going to end up.
