Boca Raton police said they received calls from people who claimed they paid a security deposit only to be told that the house they agreed to rent was no longer available.

Police said Fournier was renting a room from an 81-year-old man on West Camino Real. While living there, Fournier listed the house for rent on Craigslist and entered into phony rental agreements with four people during a two-month period.

Fournier claimed the house belonged to his aunt and that it wouldn't be ready until she was in an assisted-living facility, police said.

He even duped his elderly landlord into signing the phony lease agreements, police said.

A police investigation revealed that he concocted similar scams in three cities in Massachusetts.
