Coconut Palm Elementary, New Renaissance Middle School and every building in Miramar Town Center were on lockdown Wednesday morning after a body was found near County Line Road.
At around 9 a.m., officers responded to a call of shots fired in front of a home on the 6100 block of Southwest 41st Street.
When police arrived, they found the body of a 23-year-old Joey Delancey on the sidewalk in front of the house.
They say Delancey had just pulled his car into the driveway when another car pulled up and at least one person began shooting as Delancey was exiting the car.
Witnesses say Delancey collapsed and died as the gunmen sped away.
The victim is the father of six. Family members say they think the shooting stems from a domestic dispute between Delancey and the mother of one of the children.
After the shooting, the men fled west to the Miramar Town Center, where two men were arrested inside the library.
A third man was also later taken into custody after a K-9 sniffed him out in a nearby neighborhood.
All three of those men were being questioned Wednesday afternoon. So far, no charges have been filed.
At around 12:15 police lifted the lockdowns at the Town Center and neighboring schools.
Anyone with information about the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
