A stretch of Biscayne Boulevard was closed during the Friday afternoon rush hour because of a suspicious bag outside a Miami-Dade Police Department substation.

Detective Roy Rutland said Biscayne Boulevard was closed between 151st and 163rd streets in North Miami Beach because of a bomb threat at the Miami-Dade Police Department's Intracoastal District.

The bomb squad blew up the bag that was left on a picnic table.

Rutland said bomb squad technicians inspected the bag and determined it was safe.
