Bond set at $170,000 for woman accused in hit-and-run crash

Judge John Hurley calls Ivanka Cancic 'significant danger' to community

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Calling her a "very, very significant danger to the community," Broward County Judge John Hurley set a high bond Tuesday for the woman accused of fleeing the scene of a crash that injured a pedestrian.

Ivanka Cancic appeared before Hurley one day after Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said the 50-year-old woman struck Betty Greene, who was walking on Northwest 22nd Street early Monday morning in Lauderhill.

"For lack of a better way to describe it, you're just a danger anytime you're consuming drugs or alcohol and you're around a vehicle," Hurley said.

Cancic eventually lost control of her truck and struck a fire hydrant, deputies said.

The gushing fire hydrant caused a massive sinkhole to open, nearly swallowing an SUV.

Court records show that Cancic should not have even been behind the wheel. She has been arrested several times on charges of driving under the influence, and her license was suspended.

"What is concerning, ma'am, is that you have no driver's license, or the one you have is revoked," Hurley said.

She was also out of jail on bond, accused of illegally obtaining prescription drugs.

Hurley revoked her bond on that charge and set a bond on the new charges at $170,000.

"The court can't figure any way other than keeping you locked up from driving," Hurley said, adding that it seems she will drive "no matter what."
