Broward School District hiring bus drivers for start of school year

BCPS Transportation Department hosting recruitment fairs for bus drivers

PLANTATION, Fla. – After quite the bumpy road at the start of last year's school season, Broward County Public Schools (BCPS) Transportation Department is on a mission.

"We have a laser focus to make sure we're ready for the fall," said Spokesperson Kay Blake.

Last year, the district altered bus routes and cut overtime, leading to problems during the beginning of the school year.

There simply wasn't enough manpower to handle the massive number of students. The transportation director later resigned.

Not surprisingly, this year, student transportation is hiring.

"At this point, we're looking to hire 20 more bus operators," said Blake.

To find those drivers, BCPS is hosting recruitment fairs for school bus drivers.

They will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. on Tuesday, July 30; Thursday, August 1; and, Saturday, August 3, at the Westfield Broward Mall located at 8000 W Broward Blvd. in Plantation.

BCPS Transportation Department is looking to hire 20 more bus operators. Blake said 50 new bus drivers have already been hired.

"We are very well prepared to cover our routes," Blake said. "We have a laser focus to make sure we're ready for the fall."

Visitors to the recruitment fair can apply for part and full-time bus operator and bus attendant positions.
