Boy charged with armed robbery

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – The Broward Sheriff's Office arrested a 14-year-old boy accused of robbing a mail carrier at gunpoint in September.

Wearing a mask similar to the one from the movie "Scream," the boy pointed the gun at the mail carrier and demanded his keys on Sept. 9 in the 900 block of Northeast 12th Avenue, according to detectives. The carrier worked in Pompano Beach for seven years, according to USPS

The mail carrier cooperated, handing him the key to the postal truck, but the boy kept pointing the gun at his face, according to police. The mail carrier then pushed the gun away, and the two of them wrestled. The teen then ran away, dropping the key and the mask.

The mail carrier suffered scrapes and bruises.

A Crime Stoppers tip led police to the boy, who confessed, police said. He was charged with armed robbery.

The boy also had 10 outstanding warrants, mostly for burglary and grand theft, and was on probation, said police.
