BSO deputies injured in crash while attempting to stop stolen vehicle

Deputies taken to Memorial Regional Hospital

PEMBROKE PARK, Fla. – Two Broward Sheriff's Office deputies were injured Monday when their cruiser crashed while they were attempting to stop a stolen pickup truck in Pembroke Park.

The crash occurred a few minutes after noon on Southwest 52nd Avenue.

BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella said the deputies had been attempting a traffic stop on a stolen truck when their cruiser crashed into a tree.

A witness said the truck made a quick left turn into an apartment complex.

"This vehicle was not involved in a pursuit," Broward Sheriff's Office Department of Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said. "This vehicle was southbound when they avoided striking another vehicle. They had to take evasive action and collided with the tree."

The injured deputies were helped out of the car by a passerby and another deputy.

Both deputies were taken to to Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. Their injuries are not considered life-threatening.

Moschella said deputies took possession of the stolen vehicle, but the occupant or occupants got away.
