BSO searching for gas thieves

Authorities dust for fingerprints in minivan outfitted to steal fuel

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – The Broward's Sheriff Office uncovered a gas-siphoning operation after a minivan outfitted to steal fuel was found abandoned Wednesday in West Park.

Deputies said the van was rigged with a homemade pump used to siphon gas. They said about 250 gallons of fuel was found in the van.

Police are now working on matching fingerprints found on items left inside the van in order to catch the thieves.

The manager at a Hess gas station, 20901 NW 2nd Ave., in Miami Gardens called police after occupants of a yellow Chrysler went into the store. He believes they were used to distract him from a minivan parked above fuel covers.

Police were able to catch up with the three people inside the Chrysler.
