BSO tries to ID man who made bogus bomb threat at FPL plant

Surveillance video shows man asking for change to use pay phone

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. ā€“ Broward Sheriff's Office investigators are trying to identify a man who made a false bomb threat at a Florida Power & Light plant last week.

Deputies said the man, who identified himself as John Doe, reported that he had placed a bomb in a backpack and left it at FPL's Port Everglades facility Friday night.

The call prompted authorities to close the road and search the facility, but no bomb was ever found.

Investigators determined the call came from a pay phone at a BP gas station in Fort Lauderdale.

Surveillance video from the gas station shows the man arrive in a white Ford Focus and request change for a dollar from the clerk to place the call.

Anyone who recognizes the man is asked to call Broward County Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
