Car explodes in Jacaranda community

PLANTATION, Fla. – Police were called to the Jacaranda community in Plantation after a car exploded Wednesday night around 7 p.m.

When police arrived at 8100 Clearly Boulevard they found remnants of an explosive device under a vacant burgundy Toyota that was parked at the apartment complex.

Police say the vehicle belongs to a taxi driver who doesn't live in the complex, but leaves his personal car there while he takes his taxi to work.

Police are now searching for that taxi driver and the bomber.

Witnesses said they saw a white car speed away from the complex just as the bomb went off.

While there was heavy smoke and the scent of gunpowder, there were no flames or injuries.

Police say the car's hood was blown up and parts of the front tires were blown off.

BSO Bomb Squad and Plantation Fire Department were on the scene Wednesday night, but officials don't believe there are any more explosives.

Detective Phil Toman of Plantation PD said the explosion is under investigation.

Anyone with any information on this case is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-8477.
