Miami Gardens police: Paul Johnson surrendered to authorities Saturday

MIAMI GARDENS, Fla. – A man who was arrested by Miami Gardens police for allegedly assaulting a child he coaches remains in jail Monday morning with no bond.

Paul Johnson, 49, was arrested Saturday on charges of sexual battery.

According to police, he met the female child at Pepper's Park in North Miami for "an unscheduled practice" Friday evening. Poor weather forced the practice to be cancelled, so Johnson took the girl home to her family's apartment.

Upon arriving at the home, Johnson asked to use the bathroom.

The girl told police Johnson then sexually assaulted the her. The girl's mother arrived at the apartment amid the assault and Johnson fled the scene.

Johnson surrendered himself to the Miami Gardens Police Department on Saturday.

The city of North Miami released a statement Tuesday saying it was unable to comment on the investigation.
