The Broward Sheriff's Office has uncovered the identity of a man caught on surveillance video stealing nearly a thousand dollar bottle of cognac on New Year's Eve at a liquor store in Oakland Park.

Hans Kaiser, 47, was already in jail nearly two weeks after the theft facing charges for another crime in Margate.

According to police, surveillance video captured Kaiser stealing a $980 bottle of Hennessy Paradis Extra Rare Cognac from ABC Wine and Spirits. He slid open the case and hid the liquor under his clothing before walking out of the store.

In an interview with detectives, Kaiser admitted to the crime and told police that he sold the bottle of cognac for $100 in order to support his drug habit.
