Man allegedly chopped newly planted trees with hammer

Police in Boston believe they have apprehended a man who has been chopping down newly planted trees in the city's Brighton neighborhood.

According to The Associated Press, trees and shrubs have been vandalized for the last several years, but police have been unable to arrest a suspect.

Recent police surveillance caught Joseph Rizza, 65, entering an empty lot and attempting to chop down a tree with a hammer, according to the Boston Globe.

Rizza faces charges of willful and malicious destruction of property, The AP reported.
