Coral Gables police search for man who sexually assaulted woman

Police: Man told victim not to call police after assault inside her home

CORAL GABLES, Fla. – Coral Gables police are on the hunt for a man they say sexually assaulted a woman inside her home at knife point.

It happened early Monday morning along the 200 block of Menores Avenue.

Investigators told Local 10 the woman was asleep when the man entered her home through an open window and attacked her. Police said he then threatened the victim before leaving the scene on foot.

Investigators spent much of Tuesday passing out fliers with a composite sketch of a person of interest.

Local 10 has learned a suspicious person was reported by a witness one day prior to the attack, but police never located that suspect.

Officials fear the alleged attacker may have been casing out the area and watching his victim.

Police confirm that they have had several reports of "peeping Toms" in the area over the last few months and are asking for the public's help. The sketch released by police is of the man neighbors witnessed the day before the attack at the same location.

Police said the situation is serious and not one they have to investigate often in the area.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call Coral Gables police and can remain anonymous.
