BOYNTON BEACH, Fla. – Police in Boynton Beach say they've recovered a credit card skimmer device that was placed inside a gas pump at a Mobil station.

According to officers, an employee with the Florida Department of Agriculture and Consumer Services was doing an inspection at 4798 N. Congress Ave. on Tuesday when he found the device on one of the pumps.

Police believe the culprit used a tool to open the pump and install a 10-inch gray ribbon wire attachment that is designed to read and store credit/debit card and PIN information. The data is then sent by Bluetooth to a nearby phone.

A gas station employee told detectives that the pumps are inspected every Monday and he hadn't noticed anything suspicious on the pump the day before.

Police warn the public that there is no way to determine whether a gas station pump has a card skimming device attached because it is attached on the inside of the machine.

Anyone who believes they may have been a victim at this gas station is urged to call Boynton Beach police.
