COOPER CITY, Fla. – A husband and wife are still recovering after they were involved in a car crash back in March.
The man, Wahid Mohammed, was left paralyzed, and his wife, Rina, still can't take care of herself following the accident. Now the family wants to know why the driver responsible for the crash hasn't been arrested.
The accident happened March 21 while the couple were going westbound on Stirling Road, just past Hiatus Road in Cooper City. Iris Zerba witnessed the crash, and says Rina Mohammed barely had a pulse.
She says Rina Mohammed was partially ejected from her minivan, and the other driver, Jeisha Morales, who rear-ended the Mohammed's vehicle, appeared impaired.
"You smelled alcohol on her?" asked Local 10 News reporter Neki Mohan.
"Well, the neighbors did at first, and then I thought I smelled some too," said Zerba.
The victims were rushed to the hospital by paramedics with critical injuries.
No charges have been filed. The Mohammeds have hired an attorney, hoping to get answers and compensation for the critical care they will need for the rest of their lives.
"Both legs are paralyzed," said Rina Mohammed. "I don't think he knows he is not able to walk again."
