"He was a leader of the revolution," one participant said.

Cars decorated with balloons paraded down the streets from 8th street to the park.

Children dressed up as characters from Marti's stories waved both the American flag and the Cuban flag proudly.

The parade was comprised of mostly children who play an important role in conserving the legacy.

"It's important for the kids to know their roots and know what Jose Marti did for their country," said another participant.

Several community leaders made an appearance at the event. City of Miami Mayor TomƔs Regalado spoke to Local 10 at the event.

"We joined in celebrating Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday, Lincoln's birthday, Washington's birthday, so today it's the Cuban's community day," said Regalado.
