Driver apprehended after fleeing hit-and-run scene

Man riding bicycle struck, killed crossing I-95 exit ramp in Hallandale Beach

HALLANDALE BEACH, Fla. – A man riding his bicycle on Interstate 95 was killed in a hit-and-run crash Wednesday.

According to the Florida Highway Patrol, the bicyclist was crossing the northbound exit ramp to Hallandale Beach Boulevard when the driver of a Ford van struck him about 2:30 p.m.

The driver of the van fled the scene, but he was followed by a witness who confronted him when he stopped at a gas station. That man returned to the scene before fleeing again.

He was followed again and apprehended at Northeast Second Avenue in Hallandale Beach.

The bicyclist was taken to Memorial Regional Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. He was identified Thursday as Daniel O'Donoghue, 34, of Pembroke Park.
