Dania Beach boy injured in hit-and-run crash dies

Deputies continue to search for driver who hit Apollo Brown Jr.; brother remains in hospital

HOLLYWOOD, Fla. ā€“ The younger of two brothers injured in a hit-and-run crash in Dania Beach has died.

Apollo Brown Jr., 8, passed away Friday night at Memorial Regional Hospital in Hollywood. His 14-year-old brother, Kelv-Ron Florence, remains in the hospital.

"His body just couldn't sustain all the injuries that came upon him," father Apollo Brown told Local 10 News.

The boys were hit earlier this month on Bryan Road in Dania Beach while walking home from a basketball game. The driver who hit them has not been found.

"We don't eat. We don't sleep," grandmother Benita McKnight told Local 10. "Our nights consist of driving all night, just looking."

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies are looking for a metallic gray Toyota Tacoma missing the Toyota emblem from the front grille. The truck also has damage to the passenger side.

"I want to see you in trouble for what you've done," Brown said. "Anything else is irrelevant. But for what you've done to my family, I feel like you should be in jail, and if you've got a heart you'll turn yourself in."

Broward County Crime Stoppers is offering a $5,500 reward for any information leading to the arrest of the driver. Anyone with information is asked to call 954-493-TIPS.
