Girl, 6, dies after Deerfield Beach crash; 3 other children injured

Mother driving car also taken to hospital

DEERFIELD BEACH, Fla. – A 6-year-old girl is dead and three other children were hurt after a crash Thursday afternoon in Deerfield Beach.

The crash occurred shortly before 4 p.m. in the 200 block of West Hillsboro Boulevard, in front of the Bazaar supermarket.

Broward Sheriff's Office deputies said a woman and four children -- two girls, 6 and 11, and two boys, 4 and 6 -- were all in a Nissan Altima.

Investigators said that Altima was heading into the supermarket's parking lot when it collided with a Ford Ranger pickup truck.

The mother and children were all taken to Broward Health Medical Center, where the oldest girl died a short time later.

One other child is in extremely critical condition, and two others are in serious but stable condition, BSO spokeswoman Dani Moschella said.

Moschella said it appears some of the children were not properly restrained.

Two men in the pickup truck were not injured and remained at the scene to speak with investigators.

Hillsboro Boulevard was closed for hours between Dixie Highway and Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard.
