Driver killed in crash with school van

6 onboard Kidsville Early Learning Center van suffer minor injuries

POMPANO BEACH, Fla. – A 24-year-old woman was killed and six children suffered with minor injuries after a crash Friday afternoon.

The crash happened at 2700 Northwest 9th Street in Pompano Beach about 2:41 p.m. Witnesses said the Nissan Altima the woman was driving rear ended the Kidsville Early Learning Center van.

"It just slammed straight into the back of the van," said Ronnie Henderson. "When it hit the van, it pushed the van all the way over the curb and it hopped and once the van hopped, it just landed a little on top of the Altima."

The woman was trapped in her car, according to Pompano Beach Fire Rescue. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

The woman's name wasn't immediately released.

Six children inside the van were transported to Broward Health Medical Center and Broward Health North. They were between 6 and 10 years old.

The driver of the van was also injured and transported. She suffered non-life threatening injuries.
