Drunken officer injured girls in grocery cart, police say

Officer Ryan Robinson arrested on DUI charges

CUTLER BAY, Fla. ā€“ A Miami-Dade police officer was arrested last weekend on drunken driving charges after he caused a crash that injured two children, according to an arrest report obtained Wednesday.

Police said Officer Ryan Robinson was off duty driving his pickup truck through a Publix parking lot Saturday when he struck a grocery cart in which two girls were sitting. The grocery cart fell on its side, knocking both girls to the ground.

"I don't even know who to trust anymore," Manny Garcia told Local 10's Jason Martinez.

His daughters, Meah Garcia, 6, and Geah Garcia, 3, suffered facial injuries. They were taken to a hospital for treatment.

"They were crying hysterically," Manny Garcia said.

Police said Robinson's breath smelled of alcohol and his eyes were bloodshot. He was arrested on charges of DUI, DUI causing property damage and DUI causing bodily injury.

"You could tell he'd been drinking for a long time," Manny Garcia said.

Nobody answered the door at Robinson's home Wednesday.

This is not the first time Robinson has been on the wrong side of the law. He is facing a lawsuit for a 2007 shooting in which he and his partner fired 27 shots, killing two unarmed black men after a traffic stop.
