Family of man murdered still searching for answers

Michael Hamilton, 31, stabbed to death

CORAL SPRINGS, Fla. ā€“ Two years after a man was found stabbed to death inside his apartment, police are still searching for his killer. Now, billboards bearing Michael Hamilton's name are going up across Broward County.

Hamilton's body was discovered inside his first-floor apartment in Coral Springs.

"It's very, very hard for me to think about this is how my son left this Earth," said Hamilton's mother, Cathy Green. "I don't want any other mother to stand here and look up and see her son on a billboard."

Coral Springs police Det. Brian Koenig took the lead in the case. He immediately discovered roughly $300 in cash was missing - mostly $20 bills.

"He was attacked either upon opening the door or possibly upon hearing somebody outside and then maybe came to the door," said Koenig.

Surveillance video from the day of the murder shows Hamilton, 31, getting on and off several Broward County buses, including one at the Sawgrass Mills Mall hours before his death.

The other key clue: a bloody Adidas shoe print left behind by the killer. The shoe was popular with people who played basketball and were on a tight budget.

"I never thought this would happen to me. No one ever thinks it's going to, but when it does, it's something that you can never, ever even imagine," said Green.

One hurdle facing investigators is that they have been unable to uncover a lot of information about Hamilton's personal life, including who he socialized with before his death.

Anyone with any information on this murder is asked to call Broward Crime Stoppers at 954-493-TIPS.
