Fire destroys duplex in Fort Lauderdale

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – A duplex in Fort Lauderdale was destroyed in a fire that broke out Thursday morning.

The blaze happened at 821 NW Second Ave.

Firefighters say heavy smoke and fire was coming from windows near the front door of the home when they arrived.

Witnesses told fire crews there was a child in the rear bedroom of the home. Firefighters immediately entered the bedroom through a window, but no one was inside.

No injuries were reported. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
