Firefighter rescues dog stuck in mud

Fort Lauderdale firefighter comes to rescue of Duke

FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. – Firefighters in Fort Lauderdale were called to an animal rescue Monday after the owner of a dog found him up to the top of his legs in a thick area of water and muck.

A firefighter made his way into the mud, sinking in just above his knees, slowly making his way toward the dog, Duke, who was whimpering.

The firefighter said when he reached Duke, the dog stopped crying and started wagging his tail.

"It took some effort to get his legs out of the muck, due to the suction," the firefighter said. "I could tell Duke was very scared. Once I carried him out of the mud and put him down on solid ground, he ran right to his owner with his tail wagging."
